xBoard™ v2.0 is a compact Microcontroller Board that provide basic functionality required by most small robotics project. It has AVR ATmega16(or ATmega32) 8 bit MCU as the brain. Connected to it are 2 motor driver IC that can drive a total of 4 DC motors. You can control the direction of all four motors from software. You can run them clockwise or anti-clockwise or stop them at all. Two of the four motors are called primary motors. The advantage of these primary motors is that you can control their speed also. You can also control two stepper motors by using the inbuilt motor drivers. So the xBoard™ v2.0 has the support for both DC and Stepper motor.

Other commonly used peripheral with a MCU is LCD module. xBoard™ v2.0 has a clean connector for connecting a standard 16x2 alphanumeric LCD module. Just hook up the module and use the C library (with sample code and tutorial to get started) to use the module in NO time !

xBoard™ v2.0 can be programmed easily by USB 2.0 interface (common in Modern Desktop/Laptop Computers) by using our popular USB AVR Programmer v2.0 with user friendly software.

Other features which make it an ideal system for making robots is the inbuilt RF receiver module. The RF module can be used to receive data wirelessly. This can be applied to make remote controlled robots. xBoard™ v2.0 also has a Inbuilt IR receiver and decoder for popular NEC format remote controllers. These remote controls are very popular with consumer electronics device like DVD Players and TVs. Our free NEC decoder library makes it very easy to get signals from these standard IR remote controls. You can easily make a wireless IR remote controlled robot.

xBoard v2.0 is designed to be easily mounted on High Quality Metallic Robotic Chassis to form a great AVR robotics platform.

1. Power Supply: This block is made up of DC Power Socket, Reverse Protection Diode, On/Off Switch and few other components. Its work is to provide a regulated 5v supply to other blocks. You can easily switch the power on/off by using the On/Off Switch. The Power LED indicates the power status.
2. USER LED: This LED can be connected to the MCUs I/O Port PD7 by using the jumper J1. It can then be controlled by writing to the PORTD's seventh bit.You can disconnect this LED from the MCU by removing the jumper J1.
3. 16x2 Alphanumeric LCD Module: Small LCD to display textual/numerical values. It is very easy to use the module by getting help from our libraries and tutorials.
4. Motor Controllers: This block can be used to control 4 DC or 2 stepper motors.
5. PORTA: PORTA (bit 0 to 5, i.e. 6 I/O lines) is left free for your own use. You can use them as input or output PORT. This port is also used for analog sensor connection. In analog mode you can read a analog voltage and convert it to digital values.
6. Extra 5v Out: You can take regulated 5v power output and supply them to some other modules of your choice. Two such points are available.
7. USER Button: This is connected to PORT PD2. Can be used as simple input device.
8. RESET Button: Pressing this button will reset the CPU and make it to start executing the program from the beginning.
9. RF RX: This is the integrated Radio Frequency (315/434 MHz) ASK receiver module. Can be used to receive ASK signals from air. One major application is remote controlled robot.
10. IR RX: TSOP1738 Module used to receive and decode standard NEC Format remote controlled signals. Range is 20 to 40 feet line of sight (LOS). You can disconnect this module from the MCU by removing the jumper JP1.
11. ISP: Incircuit Serial Programming Header is used to program the onboard MCU by using any ISP capable programmer, like this one.
